People Make the Difference; Not the Place

When we go on a trip, there is a higher chance of us falling in love with the locals than the place itself. Most tourists would remember the locals by their hearts and remember the places through pictures and videos. It is extremely important for us as locals in the places we reside to please these tourists than to look for gains.

UllesThe Travel Channel chose the Ulles from more than 900 couples in a series – ‘1000 places to see before you die’. There was something special about this couple that separated them from the rest. Albin and Melanie Ulle talked about the people they met than the destination itself. Here is an excerpt:

The maitre d’ in France who proudly wore an American flag on his lapel.

The Bhutan citizens who measure “gross national happiness” rather than the gross national product.

And a poor black South African woman who single-handedly put four girls through private school during apartheid and later ran for mayor of her township.

The only way you and I can make a difference to promote tourism is being a good host and an exceptional friend.
