Bored of this World; Try Second World
If you have played SimCity, a game where you are a town administrator and have the responsibility of zoning different areas, laying roads, provisioning water to residents and building garbage dumps. Imagine that in the same game, you are playing a part of a resident who has other residents around you and X pounds with you to build a house or start a business. The same concept has been introduced by STA travel on their innovative website – Second Life.
Second Life is a virtual world in 3D where residents buy land and build cities. This website started in 2003 and so far has seen close to 6 million users who have been actively contributing to the second world.
The registration is free and simple. You will be asked a few questions and have to choose a last name from a given list. The second world goes on and on as long as you wish to be in it. Here’s some extract from the website:
• From the moment you enter the World you’ll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you’ve explored a bit, perhaps you’ll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.
• You’ll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow residents. Because residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other residents.
• The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in-world unit-of-trade, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges.
