Futuristic Folding Bike

As we get crunched for space, more and more space saver vehicles pop up. Earlier this month, I introduced the folding bike that sits in a suitcase. Today I have something on the same lines which is more flashier and futuristic. This folding bike is a prototype as of now and it is designed by young Thomas Owen. The idea is to fold the entire bike within the wheel rim but not many details have been revealed yet.

This folding bike works on a revolutionary power assist system which means nothing to me as of now, until I get more details. Having a closer look at the pictures, the bike body seems to be made of semi-flexible plastic. I share the same query as Neil Woodburn - How do pedals power the wheels? Well, answers will be obtained in due time.

It appears that you pedal the bike by rotating a band or chain in the large ring behind the pedals.
That would then either turn the wheel directly by friction, or drive a gear hub that would transfer power to the wheel by a shaft, similar to some motorbikes.
You pedal forward, the enclosed chain or belt moves backwards, and then the power is transfered into forward motion at the wheel. Even a re-inforced rubber drive belt could be used, as they are strong enough to be used instead of chains on some Harley Davidson bikes.
