Travel Tips for Asthma Patients
I have a close friend who suffers from asthma and has had a few asthma attacks while I stayed with him. It was never easy for us to travel especially going from one region to another in the US. He was particularly allergic to pollens so we had to do an extra-ordinary amount of research before we set out. Enough of him, I came across travel tips for asthma patients from Asthma UK. They seemed informative for asthma patients and for family and friends of people who have this breathing disease.
Here are the highlights:
- Increased physical activity in hot conditions could spell danger
- Keep contacts of hospitals and doctors in the destination city before heading out
- A written record of the asthma condition along with specific names of drugs is mandatory
- Carry spare medications like inhalers and steroids with a proper note from your doctor
- Travel medical insurance that covers asthma is a must
- If you are travelling in Europe, make sure you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
- Many flights allow only essential amounts of prescription medicines; make sure you know how much you want
The above mentioned tips may not be exhaustive but certainly helpful in one way or another. If you would like to share more tips with us, please do.
