People tend to think that all men are geeks and hence the proposal of travel gifts would be on the lines of specific gadgets that would enthrall men’s senses. If somebody was to ask me regarding the desired travel gifts preferred, I would list out in this fashion:

1. A cellphone with GPS capability along with directions
2. A trackstick to record my movements
3. A waterproof MP3 player
4. Solar Powered Headphones and so on

This list doesn’t seem to end but if somebody was to gift me something, I would want a hover bed before anything else.

About.com has featured an article – Top 7 Travel Gifts for Men, which lists out the different gifts that men would prefer. Remember, all men are not geeks but all geeks are men . I am not sure how the writer came up with the list, whether a survey was conducted or maybe it’s just her intuition putting on a man’s suit. Some gifts listed in the article are Wi-Fi locator to locate Wi-Fi signals for internet, a TSA luggage lock which can be opened by a special key possessed by the TSA, and the rest of the gift ideas are nothing but useless items that no man would like to be presented with. Maybe the writer should have done some research before publishing the article.

If you have any suggestions for gifts for men especially, share it with us.

For example, US has red, white and blue colors on its flag and India has saffron, green, white and blue. Shahee Ilyas, a media designer picked up a project to transform all the colors on a flag into a pie chart. He has done this for all the known countries and the work that has gone into this project has to be recognized and appreciated.

A second project that he undertook involves combining all the national flags and segregating the colors. Afer the segregation, they are plotted on a pie chart to form one big circle filled with different colors. It is no surprise that white is the most used color when all the flags are combined. Does it say something about the outset of all countries? Peace?

The ever unending question of the need for traveling arises yet again. To Travel or not to travel? Hmm… It’s an open ended question which finds followers on both sides. Scientists have observed that traveling is good for the brain as it allows people to relax their minds and get off work. At the same time, there are eco-friendly entrepreneurs who believe that traveling would cause more harm than good. The amount of pollution caused by travelers which includes flight exhaust gases and the wastage they leave behind in destinations could seriously harm our environment.

I stand in between. I think one should travel but should travel with minimum damage to the environment. That’s where the concept of a green traveler comes into picture. I support green travelers and their urge to save our environment.

Dan from The Lost Globe lists out some interesting points which are some reasons why he would travel. These points could be applicable to most of us:

    * Learn about other people, and yourself.
* Gain experience and knowledge.
* Sense of freedom.
* The challenge, and the adventure.
* Make a dream come true
* Do something that most people will never do, but will wish they had done.
* Make a break from the rat race.
* See how varied and different the world really is – and how similar all of us people in it really are.
* To live or retire somewhere new.

He interestingly brings out one point at the end which encompasses all the above listed points – Because you want to. It is true that travel should be a byproduct of desire and not of compulsion.

The use of condoms can be universal. It could be used for more than the purpose of ‘the’ act. Campers especially could call it a life saver, well, not literally. I will introduce two additional purposes of condoms for campers.

When you are out in the woods and if you have run out of matches, you could probably try lighting up the wood using a condom and some water. Water filled inside a condom acts as lens which can concentrate sun rays onto a particular spot to light fire. This video should give you a pretty good illustration:

Suppose you get hurt while camping and you need to protect the wound from infections. Condoms would be your answer. The following video shows you how a condom could be used in keeping the water away from wounds.

I am sure everyone of you would have come across an objective type quiz where you are made to answer a bunch of questions and in the end, it gives our your personality. Some quizzes have hundreds of questions and by the time it ends, we would have lost interest in the real deal. Anyways, I came across a travel personality quiz which had 15 questions based on your likes and dislikes while traveling. I am not sure how they deduce my travel personality just with those 15 questions but I always find it interesting to await the results. Anyways, here’s my personality in a nutshell:

You are a “Centric-Venturer Traveler”

You fit between Venturers and Authentics but with a leaning towards the Venturer side. Three out of ten travelers (30%) place in your group, making you one of the largest segments of travelers. You have a broad interest in travel and are more flexible and adaptable than both Authentics and Venturers, with a willingness to sample new destinations.
